Luxury Vs. Affordability - Can The Two Coexist In The Tiny House Space?

While the modern Tiny House movement reignited in the 1970s with the intention to do more with less, "less" is subjective. People all of the United States are making the decision to go tiny, and their reasons for doing so are as varied as the houses they build.

Going Tiny for Affordability

During the most recent real estate boom, North America is expected to see a $2.1 billion growth in Tiny Houses between 2021 - 2026. With numbers like that, it's clear to see that people are reconsidering Tiny Houses in the United States. With a median Tiny House cost landing at about $56,000 USD - Tiny Houses afford Americans a chance to live debt free, or close to it. As someone looking to purchase an affordable Tiny House, one could choose to work 1:1 with a professional builder, use a professional Tiny House Sales or Marketing Director (such as the Directors we use to match Tiny House Sellers with qualified cash Tiny House buyers), or you may even opt to save more money by building a tiny house yourself. With the latter option, however, it's important to note that we highly recommend using qualified professionals to install components like HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. Choosing to take these tasks on without formal training can make for a much longer, and ultimately a much more expensive process. Not to mention much more stressful.

Enter Luxury Tiny Houses

So what about those who appreciate more polished features? We believe there's space for everyone in the Tiny House community. This Tiny House in Minnetrista, Minnesota, for example was conceptualized in the mind of our client, Kate, decades before the Tiny House movement became trendy. Kate is an artist, and she uses mixed media in this Tiny House masterpiece that she had designed and built. Going tiny caused Kate to pause, as she wanted to consider her daughter and her wants and needs. So when Kate's daughter actually came to her and asked her if they could live the tiny lifestyle, she finally had the go-ahead that she needed to start building her vision. Starting to design her Tiny House, Kate wanted her home to feel open and spacious. An artist, she knew she wanted a modern edge - an industrial, and luxurious design. Maximizing head room in the bathroom was intentionally factored in to allow for ease of movement. She loves cooking, so having a highly functional kitchen with plenty of storage for pots, pans, spices, and utensils was also imperative for her. From the trailer - the foundation of most Tiny Houses - that Kate sent back twice and finally found a reputable trailer builder, to the small touches like the gold-dipped light bulbs in the kitchen, brass railings, silver, copper, and pearl essence that you'll find throughout this Tiny House, it's easy to see why this is the epitome of luxurious tiny houses.

As the cherry on top of this stunning luxury tiny house, in typical artist fashion, Kate hired Bruce Stillman, a world-renowned, kinetic metal artist and visionary curator/proprietor of the Big Stone Sculpture Garden, to create the five exterior storage door panels that are adorned in his original steel art.

Variety Is The Spice Of Life - Even In The Tiny House Community

While Kate's luxury tiny might not be ideal for those seeking affordable Tiny Houses, it's clear to see that it brought Kate and her daughter immense joy to design, build, and live in it. This Artist Inspired, Luxurious Tiny House would be perfectly suited for another artist looking to live luxuriously tiny - or even for someone looking to make an investment in starting a bed and breakfast. And this doesn't just go for this artistic tiny - most any well-designed Tiny House can be purchased as an investment opportunity. By purchasing and renting out Tiny Houses, it also creates a space for families considering "going tiny" to give it a try before they make a final decision.
